When you are planning your vacation from start to finish, you probably think it all the way through. Have you, however, considered where you will go for number 1 and number 2? No? Even if you think of a bathroom as merely a quick pit stop, there are intriguing ways that businesses have taken their restrooms up to an extreme level. In some cases, the plush powder rooms or voyeuristic lavatories are the draw to come inside a business. Here are 12 extreme restrooms, remarkable enough that you might just want to incorporate a couple of them into your next vacation.
Shoji Tabuchi Theatre

The 2009 winner of America’s Best Bathroom was the Shoji Tabuchi Theatre. Shoji is located in Branson, Missouri, offering more than entertainment on stage. Their 1890’s Empire Period bathrooms offer the lap of luxury. The ladies’ powder room has chandeliers, orchids at every onyx and granite pedestal sink, and stained glass. The gentlemen’s lounge boasts a hand carved mahogany billiard table, black leather chairs, a marble fireplace, and black lion head sinks imported from Italy. And yes, tour buses make stops here so people can go inside specifically to see or use these extreme restrooms.
Glass Lounge

Another extreme restroom experience can be found in New York’s Glass Lounge. Before you even walk inside, you can try out your voyeuristic side with a two-way mirror overlooking Tenth Avenue. If you are a Peeping Tom at heart, you can watch people inside the restroom wash their hands or use the mirror. Warning, after indulging in too many drinks, don’t forget you are being watched by pedestrians while you are inside this extreme bathroom.

Located in Louisville, Kentucky, and also the 2nd place winner of America’s Best Bathroom in 2008, is 21c Museum Hotel. This 91-room hotel features a men’s restroom that both sexes seem overly curious about. The urinal has a one-way mirror and above the basins where eyes stare back at you. Not extreme enough? The bathroom also has LCD screens with traveling images of eyes built into the mirror above the sink.
Peep

If you like to ogle as well as drink or dine, then Peep in New York City is all about extreme voyeurism. Yes, people come to Peep for the powder room. The restroom walls are two-way mirrors. Once inside, the bathroom stall is glass so you can spy on everyone in the restaurant. You can see out but they cannot see in. Peep owners report that occupants stay up to thirty minutes apiece in the restroom, enjoying their surveillance of everyone else. If you like to watch from the washroom, visit Peep.
Ninja

Ninjas are everywhere. Except, of course, if you safely navigate the dimly lit hallways to visit the restrooms in New York’s Ninja. Within the washrooms of this ninja theme restaurant, you will be greeted by a cave-like interior. The toilet, though, is pure high tech. The Toto toilets offer remote-controlled “rear cleaning” and “front cleaning” action as well as a hot-air blow dry.
Brio Restaurant

Located in Rockford, Illinois, Brio is a the place to go for dining and nighttime entertainment. Their themed restrooms, however, help bring customers in the door. You can’t get much more extreme differences than Heaven and Hell. The women’s bathroom has a Heaven theme, cool shades of blue decor. The men’s bathroom has a Hell theme, red colors and a hellish design.
Safe House
The Safe House restaurant in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, will seem like Spy Central. To even get inside the door, you need to know the password. Don’t wait until you really need to go to the restroom before you attempt finding it. This place is full of dead-ends, 2-way mirrors, and a labyrinth of hidden passageways. It’s so top secret, we cannot show you pictures. Curious? Check out this Safe House video.
Madonna Inn

The Madonna Inn offers an unforgettable experience with fine dining and entertainment, unique overnight lodging, and a very special restroom. One of the main tourist attractions is downstairs in the men’s bathroom. This man-cave room is a popular stop for both men and giggling women with cameras. The urinal looks like a waterfall which is activated when you break a beam of light.
Signature Room

The Signature Room is located atop the John Hancock Center, in the heart of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile. It offers Contemporary American food and fantastic views of the city…even from the restroom. The Signature Room bathroom was another top nominee for America’s Best Bathroom. If you do not like heights, then the restroom also has black and white photos from the 1930’s.
Mix Lounge at Mandalay Bay

Las Vegas, is there anything you can’t find there? Inside the Mix Lounge, located at Mandalay Bay, expect to be greeted with a high shine. The restroom is no exception, featuring sleek black walls, toilets and fixtures. From each bathroom stall, the breathtaking views of Mandalay Bay grounds and the surrounding city may keep you longer than nature’s call.

Transcending function, six art-inspired bathrooms are the only permanent art collection at the museum. While you take a bathroom break, the museum wishes to help you realize the power of the arts to inspire and transform our world.
Self-Cleaning Public Porta-Potty

Eww is usually the first thought when even considering to enter a porta-potty. You are not alone in not wanting to touch the inside a public toilet, but J.C. Decaux has changed that. Instead of simply adding 500 more porta-potties, Decaux installed 25 of their $250,000 a piece self-cleaning restrooms in San Francisco. The touch-free sink area has optical sensors to dispense soap, water, and start the automatic dryer. The restroom cleans itself once you clear out; the toilet and floor are cleaned, disinfected, and dried. If you stay too long, 20 minutes in this case, an automated voice sounds an alert, warning you that the door will open in precisely two minutes.
